Exodus – Asceticism

There is no greater contribution we can make than to cultivate our personal holiness through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving this Lent.

Lent is a time of great renewal. God calls us into uncommon freedom in Jesus Christ, but many obstacles stand in our way. Likewise, when Israel made its Exodus out of Eygpt, they had to face the enemies of God in battle in order to enter into the Promised Land. Even after being set free from slavery, the Israelites themselves must take up the fight to live within God’s promises. Joshua arose as the faithful leader who overcame his enemies through his faithfulness, obedience, and worship.

“The daily meditation and its focus on my practical, daily and continuing commitment to Christ has impacted me deeply. The core product of the daily reading and meditation is wonderful. Thank you so much and God bless you.” – KJQ89, Exodus 90 App Review

Lent provides us with a time of spiritual battle. We too must face God’s enemies, the demons who tempt us to fall into sin. We must also face up to our own weakness and all that holds us back from entering into God’s promises. We fight primarily through prayer and sacrifice, turning away from sin and toward God as the source of life and victory. We cannot compromise with the world but must reject the many temptations that seek to lead us into the false promises of sin but which only distort our freedom.

“A MUST for all Catholic Men! Great job on updating the app! It’s user-friendly and the quality of the reflections get better every year. I love how it’s now moving to a year long program and not just for 90 days.” – CatholicMan8, Exodus 90 App Review

Our Lenten journey concludes in the center of the Holy Land as Jesus turns toward Jerusalem to complete his own Exodus in his Passion, Death, and Resurrection. We cannot achieve victory on our own. We must take up our Cross to follow Jesus, giving ourselves with him to the Father in love. This is the true path to freedom staked out by Jesus in his great triumph of love. We will follow him each day of Holy Week as he battles with his enemies and overcomes them through his complete gift of himself, which definitively sets us free.

All Exodus men will be united in our reading of the Book of Jashua and the Gospel of Matthew this Lent, as well as a common Plan of Life. You can read more about the disciplines here

Exodus’s Lenten exercise will provide a means of entering into deeper prayer, asceticism, and fraternity, providing a comprehensive experience of renewal. It can be hard to find a concrete path for this holy season, but the disciplines that Exodus provides–giving up food, time in prayer, or putting others first–are sacrifices that enable us to take up our cross with Jesus. They make us Christ-like in imitating Jesus’s love of the Fathers and those for whom he gave his life. To enter fruitfully into Holy Week and Easter, we need intentional preparation so that God will realize his promise of new life within us.

“It’s what men need! Have to be reminded we are in a battle and are on duty soldiers and not just passive civilians. Exodus 90 does that with support.”

“This is definitely worth the time, attention, and effort for the impact it will have on your spiritual life.

“May God continue to lead the men that are part of this app. What a great way for us men to allow our God to teach us to follow his will through scripture, workout, nutrition, and knowing our roll as leaders of our families using this app and following the plans and daily gospel. Thank you. Viva La Virgen de Guadalupe!”
